Info as follows: William Alexander Collins, a white male was born on 12 Dec 1842 in Scotland. His father was James Collins, birthplace Scotland, and his mother was ___?___ Kellog, birthplace Scotland. His occupation was mechanic. He was married when he died on 15 Jan 1920. Place of death was Eureka Springs, Cedar Township, Carroll Co., AR. The number stamped in the upper right corner of the death certificate was 75.
NOTE: **** The names of William's parents on his death certificate are wrong. ****
)
His death certificate gives his death date as 15 Jan 1920. According to William's daughter, Claudine, he died in Eureka Springs from the flu on 16 Jan 1920.

Notes:
From William's daughter, Claudine (my grandmother):
William started school when he was 4 and began trade school when he was 6. He was educated in Glasgow as a mechanical engineer. William and his cousin Dan Collins came in through New York and enlisted in the Civil War. They thought it would be a good way to see the country. After the war, William worked as a millwright in a sawmill. He was also in the Texas Rangers and fought in the Kiowa-Comanche Indian War in 1874. William was a learned man. He had books by Augusta Evans, E.P. Rose, and Dickens. He also had some atlases. For Claudine's high school graduation, he bought her a book by Scott, a Scottish poet.

According to handwritten note from my father, Paul V Bowman, after William and Augusta were married, they moved to Mexico where he worked in the silver mines. One child was born and died there, and is buried in Mexico.

William had a machine shop across from the ice plant in Eureka Springs, AR. He would fix machinery from the local sawmills, street cars, ice house, and railroad. He was examining a piece of machinery one day that had been unloaded from a street car when another street car came by, hit him, and broke his leg.

And, just to prevent confusion, this William Collins did not marry Mary Ann Turner on 31 Dec 1863 in Glasgow, Scotland. The William Collins who did was the son of Thomas Collins and Margaret McCordlish.

July 2019: I had his headstone professionally cleaned and restored.

William was my great grandfather. Last updated 22 Jun 2019, JPB.
