Forest County Man Suicides After Illness

Fred H. Confer, 64, of Starr, Forest County, died at 10:30 am Sunday of a gunshot wound, said by Sheriff Bruce Haggerty to have been self-inflicted.

Mr. Confer was reported to have been in ill health and despondent for some time. His wife died six months ago and a son, Henry Confer, was killed in an accident at the Tionesta dam 13 months ago.

Mr. Confer was born at Strobleton, Clarion County, November 4, 1877.

Surviving are the following children; Mrs. Clarence Payne, Marienville; Mrs. Russell Kifer, West Hickory; and Raymond Confer, of Starr. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Elias Emert, Tionesta; Mrs. Annie Kifer, West Hickory; Mrs. Cora Kifer, Warren; Mrs. Andrew Shaderline, Oil City; William and David Confer, Warren, and Frank Confer, Newsmansville.

Funeral services will be held from the family home at 2:30 pm Wednesday, with interment in the Starr cemetery.
