Dewey Roosa, who did the initial survey of what is now the Oologah Dam and reservoir in the 1920s died Monday. He was 91. Services will begin at 10 a.m Wednesday at Claremore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Roosa, the father of Apollo 14 astronaut Col. Stuart A. Roosa, was a civil engineer on construction projects across the West. One of 10 children, Roosa was born in Stottville, N.Y. He lived in Claremore from 1941 to 1951 on Oklahoma 20, just east of the city. A veteran of World War I, Roosa spent nine years in the Army. After his discharge in 1928, he was assigned to the Army Corps of Engineers to survey the Oologah project. He retired in Tucson, Arizona in 1959. Survivors include his wife, Lorine, of the home, sons and daughter in lawn, Daniel and Wilma Roosa of Claremore and Col. Stuart A. and Joan Roosa of Gulfport, MS; a sister, Mary Hover of Oriskany, NY; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
