Mrs. Charles E. (Charlie) Roberts, 90, of Hereford, died Sunday, July 29 at 7:50 p.m. She was a former Wellington resident. Mrs. Roberts is survived by 146 direct descendants.
Mrs. Roberts was the former Lutitia Landon, daughter of Charles Landon and Amanda Bringham Landon and was born at Honey Grove August 13, 1893. He came to Collingsworth County as a young girl.
She was married to Charlie E. Roberts in 1909 in Wellington. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Roberts, one of the first families to live in Collingsworth, having come in 1888.
Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Roberts, with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thad Roberts, lived in the Oklahoma Strip, near Keys, 9 years before returning to Collingsworth County. The C.E. Roberts family lived in the Houselog community rearing their family there until he retired from farming.
She was active in the Home Demonstration Club and was a Baptist.
Mr. Roberts died in 1957, after they had moved into Wellington. Later she moved to Dumas to be nearer members of her family, and in 1975 moved to Hereford.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by 5 daughters: Leta Campbell, Ruby Campbell and Maymie Simpson, all of Hereford; Lula Mae Hudson of Dumas; and Eddie Jo Ward of Carlsbad, NM; 6 sons: Virrel Roberts of Littlefield; C.W. Roberts of Roseville, CA; Glenn Roberts of North Highland, CA; Odis Roberts of Eugene, OR; Archie Roberts of Austin; and Wayne Roberts of Hereford.
Other survivors are one brother, Joe Landon of Stanley, NM; 39 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
