John L. Bardine, aged 70, a prominent resident of Juniata for the past thirty years, having served as burgess of the former borough for two terms, died at 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. John Brumbaugh, 505 Sixth avenue, Juniata, of uremic poisoning after having been ill for the past year. Mr. Bardine was born at Glasgow, Cambria county, on Nov. 4, 1863, a son of John and Ellen (Troxell) Bardine, and moved with his parents to Newton Hamilton as a youth. Forty-eight years ago he came to Altoona and after eighteen years here, moved to Juniata where he served as a storekeeper for the Pennsylvania Railroad company at the Juniata shops until retiring after reaching the age of 65. He took a prominent part in the life of Juniata and in addition to serving as burgess for two terms, also served as one of the first chiefs of the fire department there. Surviving are one daughter; Mrs. Brumbaugh, one grandson, Earl Brumbaugh, also of Juniata; two neices who were raised in his home; Mrs. K. C. Moyer of San Antonio, Texas and Mrs. Daisy Grace of Juniata; and three brothers; Samuel of Newton Hamilton, Joseph of Altoona and Thomas Bardine of Pittsburgh. Mr. Bardine was a member of the Juniata Methodist Church for many years and of the Sons of Union Veterans. Funeral services will be held at the Brumbaugh home at 12:30 o'clock Wednesday. Interment will be the Newton Hamilton Cemetery.
