Joseph Elder Griffin, son of Jesse & Nancy [nee Williams] Griffin and husband of Permelia Eunice Austin (she's buried at Oaklawn Cemetery in Charlotte) He was a 3rd Lieutenant, Company D, 37th Infantry Regiment of the Confederate Army. Enlisted as a Sergeant 20 Nov 1861, promoted to Lt. in 1863 and mustered out at Appomattox, VA at the end of the war. He and Permelia were married in Union County on Jan 11, 1866 and had twelve children.
