Richard Tappan Dunlap, born June 28, 1789, settled in Brunswick; was, for a time, General of the militia. He was a man of excellent business ability, was engaged in trade and shipping, and was for many years president of the bank. His wife was Mary, daughter of Richard Greenleaf, of Brunswick. He died October 26, 1863.

General Richard T. Dunlap, son of Captain John Dunlap, was born in Brunswick, June 28, 1789. During the earlier part of his life he was engaged in mercantile business, and later in shipping and banking. He was president of the old Brunswick Bank for a number of years. He was a remarkably clear-headed man, was well posted in the news of the day, well read in history, and familiar with the antiquities of Brunswick and vicinity. He was exact and methodical in business. In politics he was an old-line Democrat, but a firm and unyielding Union man. He never, however, took an active part in political life. He died in Brunswick, October 26, 1863, at the age of seventy-four.

His parents were Captain John and Mary (Tappan) Dunlap, and his grand-parents were Rev. Robert and Jane (Allison) Dunlap, and Richard and Marcy (Scot) Tappan, of Newburyport, Mass.
