I wrote a short bio which anyone is welcome to copy/post. Just copy/paste it 'as is' so the source info is displayed please. This is requested so my writing of her bio is not misunderstood as a published obit of her day : )
Permelia was born in NY to a Connecticut couple after the 18th century turned. Not much is known of her youth by this biographer, as yet. She lived in Indiana by age 16 when she married another young New Yorker, Ira Allen, age 21. To this union was born at least 12 known children, 9 boys and 3 girls.
Together, with their first Indiana-born babies, Permelia and Ira moved across the western border to Illinois where the remainder of their children were born and educated. The family worked together as farmers, eventually selling their Illinois farm before 1870, and removing to Missouri. We presume a motive to move was because 2 adult children and her aged mother had passed in Cumberland, Ill., and because many of their sons had relocated to the north in Iowa/Mo. border towns. It's possible they were also motivated because of Illinois political stances, as many Illinoisians had left the state at the time surrounding civil war..
By 1870, she and Ira relocated northward to Liberty Town, Putnam Co., Mo. Though they were at retirement age, she and Ira bought a new farm. The 10 year old, John Allen (believed to be a grandson through their son John) was recorded living with them in the 1870 census. Permelia and Ira's son Sylvester's family was also living with, or adjacent to their farm.
Her husband Ira died in 1876 and she sold their farm in Feb. shortly before dying in April, 1882 at the age of 77 .
