WOOD, Grace Neva - 85, of Sutherlin passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2000 in Roseburg. She was born April 18, 1915 in Tioga, North Dakota to Edwin C. and Halen A. (Matlick) Carpenter. On March 1, 1936 in Arlington, Washington she married Charles M. Wood who preceded her in death on June 1, 1997. The Wood's moved to Sutherlin in 1943. Mrs. Wood was a member of the Sutherlin First Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Rebecca's, Daughters of the Nile and the NCT. She enjoyed traveling, knitting, sewing, crocheting and reading. Survivors include her daughter. Sharon Rich of Portland, Oregon; sisters Beulah Holmes of Roseburg and Phyllis Stevenson of Arlington, Washington; grandsons David Rich of Portland, Oregon and Steven Rich of Casper, Wyoming; great grandson Charles Alexander Rich, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wood was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers Wendell Carpenter and Lawrence Carpenter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 21, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel of the Firs. Private interment will be on Monday October 23, 2000 within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Pastor Stacy Hance will officiate. Those who wish may pay their respects on Friday, October 20, 2000 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at CHAPEL OF THE FIRS who is in charge of arrangements.
