Lawrence Verl Abbott, 79, of Lindon passed away peacefully Saturday, January 16, 2010 with his family at his side. Verl was born November 29, 1930 in Hinckley, Millard County, Utah to William Leon and Nettie Mae Theobald Abbott.

Verl grew up in Hinckley and Centerville, Utah. He spent his teen years in Centralia, WA where he graduated from Adna High School in 1949. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1950 and served his country for 21 years until he retired in 1971. While serving in the Houston area, he met and married his eternal companion, Lola Lovina Garrison. They were married in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple on December 17, 1954.

After his retirement from military service, the family moved to Lindon, Utah where they have lived for 38 years. He worked at Mt. States Steel, then Brigham Young University until his retirement in 1994.

He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities including Branch President, Ward and Stake Clerk. He served a full-time mission with his wife to the West Virginia Charleston Mission from 1983-84.

He is survived by his wife Lovina of Lindon; two children: Nina Elizabeth (Bart) Whitehead, Orem and Jeffrey Lynn (Cynthia) Abbott, Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren; two brothers: Chauncey Leon (Louise) Abbott, Ladd Theobald Abbott both of Spanish Fork; sister, Mary Lue (Clarence) Taylor, Modesto, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lindon 14th Ward (Old Lindon Chapel), corner of Center and Main Street, Lindon. Family and friends may attend viewings Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Lindon City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
