Jesse Allen married Miss Mollie Mathis on 3 August 1884 in Young County, Texas. Together, the couple watched Graham and Young County grow until their farm home became a part of Graham itself.

Jesse Allen came to Rusk County, Texas in 1856 with his brother, John Allen. The Civil War broke out and he joined the Confederate Army at Henderson, Texas with his brother on March of 1862. They served four years together. Jesse Allen surrendered at New Orleans, Louisiana by Gen. E.K. Smith on 26 May 1865. Jesse Allen was a prisoner of War from 2 July 1862 - 31 October 1863 when he was paroled.

Graham lost one of its oldest pioneer citizens when J.A. Allen, Civil War veteran and long prominent in Young County affairs, passed at his home on Third Street.

Mr. Allen lived the greater part of his life in Texas. At the age of 90, he was one of the few surviving Texans who fought in Parson's Brigade, Company B.

The pioneer moved to Rusk County at the age of 11 years, in 1875, he moved to Graham, Texas where he has lived since then.

Rev. J.D. Thorn, pastor of the Baptist church of which Allen was a member, preached the sermon. Mr. Allen became a member of the Baptist Church in 1901. The simple service was held at the home of Mr. Allen.

Served under Col. Charles L. Morgan, Lt. Col. Samuel J. Richardson, Major W. Boggess. Jesse Allen came to Graham in November 1875.

Survived by two children - Monroe Allen of Wichita Falls and Mrs. G.M. Singletary of Altus, Oklahoma.

Preceded in death by a brother - John Bailey Allen
