Katherine Margaret Lutjen, 86, of Lake City, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at her residence.

She was born November 7, 1923 in Lake City to John and Geraldine (Meyer) Meincke. She grew up in the Lake City area and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941. She married Eugene Lutjen on December 30, 1943 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City. They farmed in Mount Pleasant Township until retiring in 1977 when they moved to Lake City. Eugene passed away June 27, 1994. She was a house wife, she decorated many wedding cakes, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, drove for U of M Eye Clinic and worked at the Wise Penny Store. She planted and cared for five city flower beds. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City, St. John's Lutheran Ladies Aid, Bittersweet Garden Club, the Lake City American Legion Auxiliary and a past member of Telecare. Her favorite pass time was planting and caring for flowers in her garden. She loved working outside.

She is survived by one daughter, Carmen (Scott) Hannon of Winona; three sons, Thomas (Mary), Mark, and Perry Lutjen all of Lake City; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Lois) and Morris (Arlis) Meincke both of Lake City. She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene; twin sons, a twin daughter, Connie; a brother, Robert Meincke.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 22, 2010 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Reverend Daniel Kroll officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2010 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the Church. Memorials are preferred to Sail for Leukemia.

MAY MY LEGACY BE

I lived my life honestly and lovingly.
My dream was to be a good wife and mother.
I hope it will be remembered that I fulfilled that dream.
