In an email dated 01 April 2017 Ruth Tobias, contributor #4712665, submitted the following obituary from Xenia Daily Gazette, 02 October 1896:

It will be sad news to the many friends of Mrs. Susan Bootes to learn of her death which took place this morning at about 5 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Moses Mallow, who resides about five miles southeast of Xenia, near Maple Corner. The deceased had been ailing for a long time and owing to her advanced age had become very feeble. She was born in New York 89 years ago, and was the wife of the late Jesse Bootes. They were former residents of Xenia and Mr. Bootes died here about twelve years ago. Since his death she had made her home with her daughter, where she died and where her comfort was ministered to in every possible way in her old age. She leaves the following children: David Adsit, of Warren, Ind.; Mrs. Moses Mallow, of near Maple Corner, and Silas Adsit, of Jamestown. She was the stepmother of Mr. J. M. Bootes. For more than forty years she had been a member of the Reformed church and was a consistent Christian lady, who had the respect of all. The funeral will take place from the residence on Sunday at 1:30 o'clock. Burial at Woodland cemetery.
