Capt. NATHANIEL DOUGLAS, s/o Nathaniel, born in Chazy, NY., Aug. 30, 1774; married, June 4, 1796, Lucy CONVERSE. They were farmers, and removed to Isle La Motte, Vt. In 1811 he emigrated with his family to Canada, and was the first settler in the township of Sherrington. In company with Alexander HYDE, and acquaintance, he had walked through the country the previous year, taken up a tract of land, gelled trees and build a hut. Soon after, his father and his brothers, James and Jonathan joined them. The settlement was called Douglasville. In 1812, Mr. DOUGLAS was appointed by the British government captain of militia, and held the office till his death. He died May 1, 1829. Mrs. DOUGLAS died July 8, 1837.
