Word has been received of the death of former Cache resident Almeta Cantrall Lauderdale, 97, Lawton.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.
She died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at a Lawton nursing center.
Arrangements are under direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.
She was born May 28, 1912, in Cold Springs, to Ted Cantrall and Myrtle Knight Cantrall. She had one older brother, Orval Thomas. She attended Roosevelt Public Schools and lived for more than 50 years in Cache. She was married in 1935 to Tommie Lauderdale, who preceded her in death in 1992. He was the superintendent of Cache Public Schools from 1952 until retiring in 1970. Almeta was always involved in efforts to assist at school events and was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. Her current membership was at the Cache Church. Family, friends, the schools and later in life the church were her interests. She moved to McMahon-Tomlinson in March 2002 and it became her home with the support of the fine staff of the facility. She kept in close touch with friends at Cache and would make occasional visits with family out to Cache and have a quick meal at her old home there. But McMahon-Tomlinson became her home for the final decade of her life.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Camille, Austin, Texas; and Patrick and Anna Marie, Tempe, Ariz; and five grandchildren: Gregory Lynn and Marisa Lauren, both of Austin, Texas; and Daniela, Patricia and Tommie, all of Tempe, Ariz.
