SAD NEWS CAUSED DEATH
Mrs. William Stephenson Died Here Today - Her Son Died Yesterday

Members of a Well Known Family - Double Funeral to be Held Sunday

While sitting in a chair at the home of her son-in-law, B. F. Boland, on Sixth Street shortly after noon today, Mrs. William O. Stephenson fell back dead. The news of the death of her son Lon Stephenson, which had been imparted to her this morning, had shocked her to such an extent that her heart was affected. A few minutes before her death she was in her usual health. This is the second affliction to come upon the Stephenson family within two days. Yesterday Lon Stephenson died on a railroad train near Ozark, Arkansas while enroute to Hot Springs.
Last night the news came to Mr. Boland of the death of Lon Stephenson and this morning a messenger was sent to the home of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Stephenson, seven miles northeast of the city telling them the sad news. They came to Carthage shortly before noon. It was about 1:30 o'clock this afternoon while surrounded by her grief-stricken relatives at the Boland home discussing the death of the son that Mrs. Stephenson was seized with the heart failure which caused her death within a few minutes.
Besides a husband, Mrs. Stephenson leaves five children, namely: Mrs. B. F. Boland and Mrs. Joseph Peiffer, both of this city; Mrs. S. T. Ziler of near Avilla; John Stephenson of Tulsa, I.T. [Indian Territory] and Will Stephenson of Elk City, KS. All the children are here
Lon Stephenson, who died yesterday on the train near Ozark, AR., has been an invalid for several years and had been traveling for his health. Accompanied by his wife and brother John, he was on his way to Hot Springs. He leaves no children.
The funeral of the other and son will occur on Sunday at 2:30 at the Christian church and the burial will be in Park Cemetery.
The remains of Lon Stephenson arrived here from Arkansas today accompanied by the wife and brother John.
The Stephensons are one of the best known families in Jasper county. They have resided for many years in the Avilla neighborhood.
