Funeral Services Are Held for J. R. Armstrong

SILVER CREEK, March 20 Funeral services were held at Old Silver Creek Baptist church near Monticello, for John R. Armstrong, 50, native of Lawrence county and resident of the Silver Creek community for some years, who died in a New Orleans hospital following following a stroke.
The Rev. W. L. Holcomb, pastor of the Prentiss Baptist church, conducted the services. Interment was made in the Old.Silver Creek church cemetery.

Mr. Armstrong, a member ot a widely known Lawrence county familv. was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John B. Armstrong cf Silver Creek. Mr. Armstrong had for years been a valued employe of the Gulf. Mobile and Ohio railroad and had lived in Jackson for twenty years. For the past two years he had made his home in New Orleans. He was a member of Old Silver Creek Baptist church.

He is survived by his wife: two sons, Leon Armstrong of Jackson and Charles Armstrong, member of the faculty of the Belzoni High school, and one daughter, Mrs. Phil Ivy, of Jackson. Among other surviving relatives are four brothers, Louis and. Earl Armstrong of Silver Creek and Walter and Nathan Armstrong of Newhebron and three sisters, Mrs. J. W. Bourn oi Oakvale; Mrs. Luther Polk, Prentiss and Mrs. Paul Thurman, New Hebron.
Mrs. Robert Fortenberry of Monticello is among surviving nieces of Mr. Armstrong , and Mrs. Mary Prestridge of this place is a cousin of Mr. Armstrong.
