Beverly Ann Maddox, 70, of Decatur, died Jan. 5, 2010, in Heartland Nursing Home. Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials: in Beverly's name to the Decatur Memorial Hospital Cancer Care Center. Beverly was born March 20, 1939, in rural Sullivan, daughter of George and Iva Wilhelm. She was active, along with her husband, in the State Foster Care Program and served as foster mother for more than 250 children, often volunteering to care for the neediest children, those with physical or emotional problems; after she ended her service as a foster mother, she continued to serve in an advisory capacity to other foster parents. She graduated from Arthur High School in 1957 and in 2009 was presented with a "Humanitarian Award" by her classmates for her work in the foster care program; was a member of Morningside Church of Christ and firm believer in the Christian religion. She married Thomas Maddox in 1964. Survivors include: her husband; six children, Mike (Debi) Maddox of Monument, CO, Pam (Joe) Hazel of Richmond, VA, Rick Maddox of Springfield, Tom Maddox, Charlotte Bell (Mark Roberts), Holly (Steven) Pearson, all of Decatur; two granchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Dennis and Charles of Decatur, Merl of Springfield, MO, James of Peoria; 43 nieces and nephews. Her parents, one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Shelly Maddox, one granddaughter and 10 brothers preceded her in death.
