First child of John D. Clemons (1811-1872) and Polly Leet (1815-1886). Married Lydia Chubb (1846-1929) on 21 Feb 1867. No children.

Civil War veteran: 87th NY Vol Infantry, Co. A.
Established general store in Dresden Centre, 1874. Store burned on New Years Eve 1876, destroying Town records. Again in 1901.
Served as Dresden Town Clerk and as Washington County Treasurer.
Postmaster of Dresden Centre/Clemons 1877-1888, 1888-1910. Name of Dresden Centre changed to Clemons in 1902.

The George Clemons home is just on the other side of the town hall from the cemetery. There is a cannon in the yard.
