Gintz was a native of Illinois who later lived in Nacogdoches, Texas and attended Rice University and Oklahoma University. Gintz was later the owner of the Gintz Manufacturing Company, leaving that position to become a member of the Industrial Arts Department at Sam Houston State Teachers College. He later served as director of the Josey School of Vocational Education on the SHSTC campus.

A student apartment complex (existing 1961-2005) was later named in his honor.
