Dovey Alvina Malone Mickey is the daughter of Arthur Lane Mickey and Edna Etta Esther Malone Mickey. She is the eldest of their children and the first of their three daughters. Dovey and Eugene were the children of Edna and were adopted by Arthur after Edna & Arthur were married.

She is the half-sister to Eugene Mickey, Edna May Mickey Roberson, William E. Mickey, Lane F. Mickey, and Baby Girl Mickey.

Dove's mother was sickly after the birth and death of her last child. Dove spent much of her time helping her mother with chores and the children. When Dove was 14 years old her mother became very ill after surgery to remove her gallbladder. Dove cared for all of her siblings and her mother during this time. Within two weeks of becoming ill her mother died* leaving Dove the "mother-figure" to her younger siblings.

She married Jack Odell Blackmon on January 19, 1929, in Bakersfield, Kern County, California. Jack died in 1971, at age 64 years old.

She is the mother of John "Jack", Steven "Stevie", and Patricia. Her youngest son Stevie died on Halloween night when his costume was lit on fire by children playing a prank. Stevie later died from the burns he received that night.

Later in her life Dove moved to Oregon to live with her son when it became apparent she could no longer live along. She died August 28, 1995, at the age of 86 years old.

Although Dove's life was laden with hardship and sorrow she never reflected it in her life. Auntie Dove is one of the strongest, kindest, and most loving women I've ever know in my life outside my family! Love you and miss you Auntie Dove!!

*Her mother's liver had been nicked during the gallbladder removal surgery. After the surgery she hemorrhaged from her liver. The condition was left undetected and her mother died.
