Arthur E. Sloan, 79, of 3300 N.W. Pinehurst, Gladwin, died suddenly Thursday, Nov. 18, in the Gladwin Area Hospital. Born in Ederslie Township, Bruce County, Ont., Nov. 29, 1906, he came to Gladwin County in 1960 from Drayton Plains, Mr. Sloan retired in 1959 as a mechanic for Pontiac Motors. He worked at McArdle Pontiac Cadillac in Midland until 1971 and operated Sloan's Sand and Gravel in Gladwin from 1960 to 1966. Mr. Sloan was a member of the Gladwin Co., V.F.W. Post 7303, the Disabled American Veterans of Gladwin County, U.A.W. Local 653 Pontiac, the Cedar Lodge F.& A.M. 60 of Clarkston and the Joseph C Bird O.E.S. 294, Clarkston. He was married to the former Minerva Pringle May 3, 1946, in Ohio.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Gladys Obright of Elora, Ont. Services were held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel. A military graveside service was held by the V.F.W. in the Highland Cemetery. The Gladwin Masonic Lodge held a memorial service Sunday. Memorials may be made to the National V.F.W.
