JOHNSON, LeRoy 93, lifelong resident of Dayton, died Friday, January 15, 2010 at Walnut Creek Nursing Center. LeRoy was born on April 25, 1916 to the late Frank W. and Edna (Herr) Johnson. He was a 1935 graduate of Steel High School. A veteran of World War II, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and received the American Defense Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. LeRoy retired from WPAFB as a civilian in 1972 where he had worked as Locksmith foreman. He was a 72 year Mason and a member of Mystic Lodge No. 405. LeRoy had a heart of gold and did not know a stranger. He greatly missed his friends at the donut shop and the car dealer where he used to make his morning rounds. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years: Dorothy; 1 daughter & son-in-law, Carolyn Burns and husband David of West Carrollton; 4 grandchildren, Chris Johnson and wife Tracy, Richard Burns and wife Jennifer, Christopher Burns and wife Nikki, Nicholas Burns and wife Emily; 5 great grandchildren, Aidan and Kiera Johnson, Dominic Burns, Cameron Burns and Owen Burns. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Treva Lauber; 2 brothers, Edward and Arthur Johnson. Funeral service 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the GEORGE C. MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, "North Dayton Chapel," 5040 Frederick Pk. at Needmore Rd. Pastor Rob Wackerman, officiating. Interment: Shiloh Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 P.M. Monday at the George C. Martin Funeral Home. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to all the caregivers at Walnut Creek Nursing Center who so lovingly dedicated their time to LeRoy during the last two years and to Hospice of Dayton.
