On Dec. 23, 1937 he married Avis Wilma Click in Ballinger, Runnels County, Texas. Clyde and Avis had 4 known children: Wilma Fay, Sharon Ann, Vickie Lynn and Lanessa Gayle Sheffield.

Clyde had: one infant sibling, 6 brothers: Edward, W.D., Elmer, David Lee, Robert Lee and Irvin Sheffield and 4 sisters: Veta, Lela Mae, Clara L and Rena Letha Sheffield.
