Funeral services for Alfred Gayden Sanders, 91, were held May 11, 2004 at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Whaley of Murray Street Church of Christ officiating. Burial followed in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood. He died at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Whitney, Texas. Mr. Sanders, a Whitney resident since 2001, moving from Rockdale, was born in Personville, Texas, to William Alfred and Leler (Roberson) Sanders. He and Etta Pounders were married November 30, 1941, in Rockdale at the Christian Church parsonage. Mr. Sanders, a member of Murray Street Church of Christ in Rockdale, was a railroad terminal clerk in Houston. Preceding him in death were his wife, Etta Sanders; brothers, Tommy Amos Sanders, Young Wade Sanders, Arnett D. Sanders, Andrew Clarence Sanders and Emmitt G.
