Aunt Mattie was quite a character. She had never married and could remember hearing stories about the battle at Shiloh from her father and uncles. She became ill and neighbors were concerned for her because she would wake them up in the middle of the night thinking someone was in her attic. She came to live with my parents and proved to be very entertaining. When my mother watched the soap operas on TV, Aunt Mattie would hid her face and ask if the character on TV were married if they were kissing. She said they shouldn't be doing that if they weren't married. She was really concerned for my young sister seeing the kissing too. She had lived a very sheltered life living with her old maid sister her being the youngest and the last living member of her family.
