He was born in Vidalia, GA, but he moved to Waycross in 1956. Gary graduated from Ware County High School in 1962, from South Georgia College in 1973 and Valdosta State College in 1977. He retired in 1995 from the Georgia Department of Corrections Probation Division as the assistant chief of the Waycross office, and he was formerly employed by the Waycross and Ware County Police Departments as an officer. Affiliated with the Baptist faith, Gary was an avid photography enthusiast especially in dirt track racing and childrens’ sports. The children of the Ware County Recreation Department will fondly remember him as “Grandpa” or the “Picture Man”.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Talmadge Sanford and Beulah Mae Adams Sanford; and daughter, Jennifer Sanford.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Patsy Jean Fullard Sanford of Waycross; one son, Talmadge Matthew Sanford of Waycross; niece, Sherre Durham (Rick) of Folkston; and nephew, Will Fullard of Florida.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday (September 13, 2020) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
