Mildred R. Bivins June 7, 1931- May 17, 2009 COLUMBUS, GA Mrs. Mildred Ruth Johnson Bivins of Columbus passed Sunday at Doctors Hospital. She resided at 4259 Ridgefield Court and was 77 years old. Daughter of the late Milledge and Elizabeth Willis Johnson, Mrs. Bivins was born in Phenix City, AL on June 7, 1931. She was a member of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served as Minister of Music and a Deaconess. Mrs .Bivins was an accomplished pianist, having served many churches in the Tri-city area for over 63 years. She was also an ordained minister. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, SFC (Retired) Sam W. Bivins, a daughter, Bivinia Bivins and one grandson, Kyle M.Bivins. Survivors include: five sons, Phil S. Bivins and Barry M. Bivins of Columbus, Samuel F. Bivins (Greer) of Ellenwood, GA, Marion Bivins (Octavia) of Riverdale,GA and Ron A. Bivins (Monica) of Phenix City; one daughter, Gail Bivins Dunlap of Morrow, GA; sixteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, a brother, Leandrews Johnson (Beatrice) of Springfield, MA; one sister, Christine Johnson of Columbus; one brother-in-law, Henry Bivins (Annie) of Mesquite, TX; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette B. Jackson and Ella B. Coleman of Cleveland, OH; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Homegoing Services for Mrs. Bivins will be Friday, 10:00 AM at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. David Dawson, pastor, officiating. Apostle Horace Leonard will deliver the eulogy. The interment will follow in Main Post Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday beginning at 2:00 PM with a Family Hour from 6 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The cortege will depart from the residence at 9:30 the morning of the service.
