Merida was the son of Valentine & Sarah Jane Wade Chastain. On 29 May 1870, he married Eliza Ellen Chastain. They were the parents of William Henry and James Valentine.
After Eliza's death in 1891, he married America King. On 24 April 1895, he married Frances Chastain. They were the parents of Ray.

I do not know with certainty where he is buried. There is an Old Union Church Cemetery and a Union Cemetery listing I have found so I hesitate to assign him to either.
