Robert Doyle Burks, 88, of Conway died Wednesday (July 26, 2006) at Conway Regional Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 15, 1917, in Monticello, Ark., to the late Roy and Ella (Applewhite) Burks.
He served in the Navy during World War II and retired after 20 years as a Chief Warrant Officer.
He was a competitive runner and cyclist and won many marathons and trophies. Robert trained horses and bird dogs, and was also an avid hunter. He was also a mechanical engineer and a farmer.
Survivors include sons, Thomas Burks and wife, Elaine, of Little Rock and Robert Burks of Greenbrier; daughter, Janet Mace and husband, Jack, of Conway; grandchildren, Morgan Burks and wife, Shashi, of California, Rachel Burks of England (United Kingdom), Shelley Henderson and husband, Russell, of Conway, Todd Mace and wife, Melanie ,of Vilonia, Jeff Mace and wife, Amber, of Conway, Robin Baker and husband, Frank, of Russellville, and Josh Burks and wife, Diana, of Conway; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway with burial following at Cypress Valley Cemetery in Vilonia.
Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
