Marion Sneed "Sam" 82, husband of Valerie (Bouthillier) Sneed, of 13 Baron Dr., Lisbon, died Tuesday at Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, Fla.

Born in Monroe, N.C. on May 29, 1927, he was the son of the late Walter and Annie (Fincher) Sneed.

A U.S. Navy Veteran of 30 years being honorably discharged with the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, he had spent six years on surface craft and 24 years on submarines spanning World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam Era, and was Chief of the U.S.S. Patrick Henry and the U.S.S. Thomas A. Edison. Following his retirement from the U.S. Navy 1974, he graduated from Mohegan Community College with an associate degree in history, and from Eastern State University with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts. He was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Post 10,004 of Jewett City, a member of the Silver Star A.C. of Norwich, and a long time member of the Norwich Golf Club.

On July 2, 1976, in Preston, he was united in marriage to Valerie (Bouthillier) Sneed, who survives, along with one son, Henry R. Sneed of Stonington; three step-sons, Robert Majewski of Norwich, Philip Majewski of Norwich, and Mark Majewski of Arlington, Va.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen S. Johnson of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul F. Sneed, and Clayton R. Sneed, Sr.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich. Graveside services will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Maplewood Cemetery with Military Honors, meeting directly at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the charity of the donor's choice.
