He was born Aug. 14, 1940, in Marlow, Okla., the son of Lloyd Weldon and Jessie E. Bruner Newman. He married Esta L. Payne on Sept. 2, 1961, in Industry.
Surviving are his wife, Esta Newman of Arenzville; one daughter, Mita (husband John) Elam of Beardstown; one son, Jason (wife Wendy) Newman of Colona; two grandchildren, Jake and Audra Elam; one stepgrandson, Corey Wilson; and one brother, Doyle (wife Marjorie) Newman of Marlow, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carol Lynne Morrison.
Mr. Newman graduated from Industry High School, and as a student there also taught dancing and gymnastics.
He worked as a maintenance and safety operator at National Starch and Chemical in Meredosia for 35 years, until his retirement, and he also raised cattle, trained horses and dogs.
William was a member of Bluffs United Methodist Church and Boilermakers Union 484.
He enjoyed bird hunting with his hunting dogs and dancing with his wife and daughter Mita in the Riverboat Ramblers.
Burial will be in Industry Cemetery.
