At the Turnbull family cemetery east of Caddo on the Stuart Ranch there is a double headstone bearing Clemon and Charles Benton's (the twins) names, showing they died the same day, same year, although the date on the stone is in error by one year, reading 1901 instead of 1902. It would stand to reason they died some sort of violent death and they did. It was a few days before their eighteenth birthday and they were attending Preston City School when both were shot at the same time by cattle rustlers. Clemon was the first to die, March 27, 1902 and Charles 15 days later at their uncle Turner's home. Professor Preston conducted the funeral services. Quoting from the obituaries in the Caddo Herald, ...They were grand and noble youths......, always full of sunshine and happiness and especially for his noble mother, Charles seemed to regard her as his earthly treasure."--Kathy Benton Cook and Frankie Wagner James
