Mr. Powell was born the son of Mitchell Jones Powell and Marjan Eliza Prosser Powell on September 9, 1921, in the Possum Fork community of Johnsonville.
He lived in the Scranton community until 1972. Rev. Powell was bi-vocational the majority of his life as a SC farmer of various crops and livestock and skilled carpenter.
After accepting the call into the ministry, Mr. Powell was licensed as a minister in June 1966 and ordained in June 1970. His ministry spanned 20 yrs. of which he served the following churches: Antioch PH Church, East Florence PH Church, Lakeview PH Church, Bamberg PH Church, Lakewood PH Church, and Mt. Olive PH Church.
He retired in 1990 due to health problems. He wrote his Legacy by the labors of his hands as he toiled the land, framed buildings, and shepherded the sheep of God. His life is defined by the words of II Timothy 2:15 "A workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth."
Alec and Hannah were married on September 28, 1940 and celebrated 66 1/2 years together. From their blessed union survives: five children, Charlie (Sophia) Powell of Lake City, Mike (Donna) Powell of Bonneau, Rev. Tony (Gwynn Ann) Powell of Lake Placid, FL, Sybil Troutman of Barnwell, and Marjan (Rev. Aldon) Johnson of Georgetown; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
