Evan G. Henderson was the son of William and Mary Henderson. He married Mary in 1858. They lived in Claiborne Parish, LA. On May 11, 1862 Evan and his brother Daniel enlisted in Captain Marcus O. Cheatham's Infantry Company ( Claiborne's Invincibles). Evan's enlistment paper is to the right of this. It says he was 5' 10" tall with blue eyes, dark hair, and dark complexion. His company became a part of Col. Henry Gray's 28th Louisiana Infantry Regiment CSA. He was a Prisoner of War, captured at Bayou Teche, LA, April 14, 1863 and paroled below Port Hudson, LA May 11, 1863. In 1867 Evan and his family moved to Jack County, Texas. There was alot of trouble with the Comanches at that time and Evan became a Texas Ranger (Minute Man).
