BETTY JANE MAHONEY WILSON

Betty Jane Mahoney Wilson, "Mama Betty", of Dothan, died on Sunday, January 10, 2010 from complications of an aneurism at Southeast Alabama Me-dical Center with her family by her side. She was 78. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, Jan.12, 2010 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Fain officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The fa-mily will receive friends from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Monday at Sunset Funeral Home and at the church at 9:00 A.M. prior to the service. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association , P.O. Box 6267, Dothan, AL, 36302. Mrs. Wilson was born on March 2, 1931 in Yazoo City, MS and spent the early years of her life in Plaquemine, LA. She later moved to Baton Rouge, LA., living there for 14 years during which time she met and married George Wilson, Sr. Together they moved to Norco, LA for 13 years prior to moving to Dothan in 1977. Mrs. Wilson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan where she cherished her time with the Owl's Sunday School Class. She was a longtime member of the Dothan Country Club as well as an avid golfer playing with the Ladies Golf Association. Mrs. Wilson also enjoyed her time with the First and Third Bridge Clubs. She was a supporting wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and loved spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, George Wilson, Sr. in 2004. Survivors include her four children, Steve Wilson and his wife Annette of Dothan, George E. Wilson, Jr. and his wife Debby of Dothan, Pam Smith and her husband Gary of Norco, LA, Kathy Danburg and her husband Dr. Danny Danburg of Panama City, FL; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie Wilson Price of Dothan, Melissa Wilson Berniard of New Orleans, Amanda Wilson Bruns of Fairhope, AL, George (Trey) Wilson, III of Enterprise, Josh Wilson of Birmingham, Brad Wilson of Birmingham, Brooke Wilson Goodson of Enterprise, Representative Gary Smith, Jr. of Norco, LA, Rebecca Smith Tassin of Norco, LA, Dan Danburg, III of Panama City, FL, Jay Danburg of Panama City, FL; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Her grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and her granddaughters will be honorary pallbearers. Robert Byrd of Sunset Funeral Home (334) 983-6604, is in charge of arrangements.
