"Sergeant Thomas Ayers Dies In Texas Hospital"

Master Sergeant Thomas L. Ayers, a career soldier who had been in the Army for the past 21 and a half years, died of a heart attach March 25th at Brooke Army Hospital at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Sergeant Ayers was a combat Veteran of World War II and had received the Purple Heart. He suffered a heart attack about a year ago and had been in the hospital at the Texas fort for the past six months.

Survivors are: the wife, Mrs. Genina Hughes Ayers; daughter, Carlotta Jane Ayers; son, Robert Ray Ayers; mother, Mrs. Nannie Ayers; sisters, Mrs. Ann Reynolds and Mrs. Janie Tidwell, all of Habersham, and Mrs. Lissie Reynolds of Oak Ridge; brother, Woodrow Ayers of Center Line, Michigan,

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Habersham Church of God with the Rev. W.O. Baird, the Rev. A.J. Phillips, and the Rev. Dink Reynolds officiating. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Cross and Berry Funeral Home of LaFollette was in charge of arrangements.
