American Civil War Veteran
On February 15, 1865 he enlisted in the 1st Michigan Calvary, partaking in the closing battles around Petersburg. After the war the regiment was sent to fight the Indians and he was discharged at Fort Bridger, March 25th, 1866.

William Burch was born in the State of New York. Aug. 11th, 1848 and died in Paw Paw Jan. 2, 1921 at the age of 72 years, 4 months, and 21 days. When quite young he came with his parents to Porter. On May 10th 1867 he married Margaret J. Buckmaster. Nine children were born to them seven of whom survive him. There also 33 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. His illness dates from his Army service, but for the last 20 years he has been unable to labor. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon by Reverend J. P. Bates, burial at Prospect Cemetery.
