"In Auburn, N. Y. where he had arrived a few days previous in good health on a visit to his sons, Major Edward Cumpston, late of Schoharie and formerly of Albany, aged 72. The deceased was a soldier of the Revolution. He rose to the rank of Major in the army, and on one occasion was appointed by Gen. LaFayette to perform the duties of Adjutant General. As a citizen as well as a soldier by his gentlemanly deportment, he commanded the esteem of all who knew him. He was a native of Boston."
