Cliff was a 1941 graduate of Central High School . He was retired from the Chattanooga Fire Department after 25 years and retired after 15 years of service with TVA at Raccoon Mountain and Sequoyah Nuclear Plant. Cliff served seven years in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II on a submarine.
He was a member of Red Bank Presbyterian Church and the Covenant Sunday School Class. Cliff was a member of St. Elmo Post #148 of the American Legion and the St. Elmo East Ridge Masonic Lodge #755 F&AM.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances McCarthy Carroll; daughter, Jane O'Dell and her husband, John, of Trenton , Ga ,; son, John C. Carroll Jr., Cocoa , Fla. ; three grandchildren, Lacy Yates, Cody Yates and Cameron O'Dell, Trenton; nieces, Carol Jackson, and her husband, Vernon, Sale Creek, Jean Wattenbarger, Chattanooga.
The family received friends at a Praise Service celebrating his life at Red Bank Presbyterian Church, 4320 Dayton Blvd, on Monday, Dec. 8th at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. Everett Gossett officiating.
Interment was at Chattanooga National Cemetery Dec. 9, 2003 at 11 a.m.
Arrangements were by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
