Funeral Services for Ethel Holcomb Humphrey Nelson, 89, of Athens, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Richard Palmer, officiating. Burial will follow in Tennessee Colony Cemetery, in Anderson County.

Mrs. Nelson died Friday, April 2, 2004 at South Place Nursing Home in Athens.

She was born August 28, 1914 in Anderson County to the late Wylie and Minnie Lee Elkins Holcomb.

Mrs. Nelson "Granny" was a resident of Athens most of her life. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Athens. Our mother, there is not many like her. Her want and desire was to be God's warrior, to fulfill his needs was lifes greatest pleasure. Her world was small compared to some, but my what a change, where her light did shine. For all who knew her, found her a real joy, a meal at her table was most memorable for anyone. Our loss, but heavens gain, from a family who loves you so dearly, you will always be near.

Preceded in death by her husbands, Leonard Humphrey and Pete Nelson, sons, Marshall Humphrey, and Raymond Humphrey, grandson, Steve Humphrey, numerous brothers and sisters.

Survived by daughter, Norma Milburn, Irving, grandchildren, Donna Barton, Palestine, Traci and Earl Osborne, Athens, Michelle Milburn, Dallas, great grandchildren, Lacie Sanders, Paul Humphrey, both of Palestine, Will Osborne, Athens, one great-great grandson, Dalton Sanders, Palestine, numerous nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers are Marvin Holcomb, Glen Holcomb, Ronnie Holcomb, Earl Osborne, Rhett Barton, Ben Sanders.

Honorary Pallbearers are Will Osborne and Dalton Sanders.
