PROMINENT ROGERS CITIZEN SUFFERS STROKE

Finis E. Miller, widely known resident of Rogers and former cashier of the defunct Farmers' State Bank of that city, suffered a stroke of paralysis while resting in a chair at his home Monday afternoon. Partial paralysis developed in his left side and he was unconscious for some time.

Recently Mr. Miller was appointed receiver of a closed bank in Osceola. The climate change and the intense heat in Mississippi caused a partial breakdown and with Mrs. Miller they had returned home only Saturday for a few days rest. His condition is reported to be somewhat better this morning. [Benton County Democrat - Bentonville, Benton County, Arkansas - Page 1 Column 2]

MILLER, Finis E. - Finis Miller, prominent in Northwest Arkansas business and civic affairs for many years, died at his home in Rogers early Saturday morning following a stroke of paralysis last Monday. Funeral services were held in the Rogers Presbyterian Church with Mrs. Richard Allen, former reader of the Christian Science church, conducting the services. The Masonic grand lodge conducted the services at the grave. Over 100 Knights Templar and Sir Knights attended the funeral in full uniform. Lodges at Bentonville, Fayetteville, Garfield, Ft. Smith and Little Rock were represented at the funeral. Mr. Miller had long been identified in Masonic work in the state and served as grand commander of Arkansas Knights Templars. Prominent Rogers business men acted as pallbearers. The funeral was one of the largest ever held in that city. Mr. Miller was 47 years old and was the son of the late W.A. Miller, one of the pioneer merchants of Rogers. His rise in business affairs was remarkable. Starting in as express agent he later accepted a clerkship in the American National Bank and a little later became connected with the Farmers State Bank there, becoming afterwards vice president and cashier. After the closing of the Farmers State Bank he was made receiver of a state bank in Osceola. Mr. Miller was prominent in county affairs, especially in road building. In his home city he was active in civic affairs. Besides his widow, Mrs. Lizzie Hawkins Miller, he is surivived by six brothers, Horace, Horton and Arthur Miller living in Rogers, Hugh of Sand Springs, Okla., John of Berkeley, Calif. and Claude of Monett, Mo. A sister, Miss Maud Miller, of Rogers also survived him. Mr. Miller was the youngest of the seven sons of the late W.A. Miller, pioneer Rogers merchant. The father was an active and enthusiastic Mason and the boys all followed their father's footsteps into that Order. In the Masonic Blue Lodge Finis Miller had filled all the chairs in the Rogers Lodge and likewise all offices in the Arkansas Grand Lodge, including that of Grand Worshipful Master. He also was Past Immediate Grand Commander of the Masonic Knights Templar of Arkansas and held memberships in the Royal Arch Masons, the Amrita Masonic Grotto, the Masonic Shriners and in the Arkansas Consistory of Scottish Rite Masons.
