EARL SMITHIES BYINGTON
May 21, 1917 - Jan. 3, 2010

AMERICAN FORK, UTAH- Earl Smithies Byington, 92, American Fork, Utah, formerly of Vale, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010. Earl was born in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, May 21, 1917, to Charles Norton and Ettie Smithies Byington. He was the sixth of seven children, having three brothers and three sisters. Earl spent his growing up years on his father's farm in Lava Hot Springs, developing a love of farming and dairying that would stay with him throughout his life.

After serving 41⁄2 years in the Air Force, Earl was drawn back to farming in Idaho.

He married MELISSA ALLEN Jan. 4, 1950, in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They lived in Idaho and Arizona before settling on a dairy farm in Vale where they lived until her death in 1990.

Earl loved sports of all kinds, especially football. He also enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions, and especially enjoyed serving in the Boise Temple.

Earl is survived by his son, Danny, of Ontario; daughters, Debra Saunders, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Sandra (Tim) Harper, of Elk Grove, Calif., and Renee (Monty) Saunders, of Vale; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Valley View Cemetery in Vale. Arrangements are under the direction of Lienkaemper Chapel.
