Thelma was born in Harlan County, Kentucky on June 27th, 1924, daughter of the late William Harrison and Ethel Mae Sears Wells. Thelma was a member of the Zion Baptist Church, a homemaker, enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cooking, gardening, and flowers. Things always flourished when she tended to them. Thelma was a great mom, and friend to many.
Thelma was survived by her second husband, Rev. Edwin Watkins, whom she married on November 6th, 1993; two daughters, Beulah (and Kenneth) Turner and Lorraine (and Gene) Tucker; two step-sons, Cleo (and Gloria) Speaks and Edwin Jr. (and his wife, Beth) Watkins; three step-daughters, Fostine (and Junior) Whitaker, Wanda White, and Oretta (and Steve) Littrell; two sister, Bertha Arthur and Rebecca Long; two special nieces, Carolyn Hyden and Shiela Morgan; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends who mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Harrison Wells and Ethel Mae Wells; her first husband, Rayburn Speaks; one daughter, Ruby Sewell; one step-son, Fayne Speaks; two grand daughters, Wayna Raye Wilson, and Kimberly Whitaker; one great grandson, T.J. Jasper; and two brother, George Wells and Ernest Wells.
Visitations were held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6th, 2010 at the Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7th, 2010 in the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Ulanda Price and Rev. Claude "Jr." Meece officiating.
Burial followed in the Barnesburg Cemetery.
