Visitation will be held Sunday, January 10, 2010 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at McDonald's Chapel, 1275 Continental Street, Redding.
Graveside services will be held Monday, January 11, 2010 at 12:00 noon at the Redding Cemetery adjacent to the Chapel.
A reception will immediately follow the Graveside service Monday, January 11 at the Paris Park Clubhouse located just past the gated entrance (Paris Avenue).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Haven Humane Society, PO Box 992202, Redding, CA 96099.
Jerry is preceded in death by his loving son, Alphonse (Al) Cornet and parents.
Jerry was a longtime resident of Redding, and worked as a baker for Safeway for over 30 years. Jerry was an avid soccer trainer/coach, and was instrumental in bringing the sport of soccer to Redding by offering seasonal soccer camps for youth through the City of Redding Recreation for over 35 years. He was inducted into the Shasta County Sports Hall of Fame in 1999 for his contributions to the sport. Jerry was also an avid fisherman and was the European Fly Casting Champion in 1954. He could be seen at his favorite fishing hole (Pitt 7) on most days. Jerry was a former member of the Moose Lodge and currently participated in the Senior Citizens Club of Redding.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeannine Cornet, his two brothers and four sisters, numerous nieces and nephews in Belgium, as well as many God sons/daughters, and close family friends.
