Dr. Mary Elizabeth Bell, 99, of Indianapolis died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Hoosier Village Healthcare Center in Indianapolis.
She was an accomplished teacher, professor and published author.
She was born June 10, 1910 in Newport, Indiana to the late Warren Bell and Eliza Isaacs Bell.
She is survived by nieces Pam Preston of New Mexico, Virginialee Vinci of Plainfield, IN; three great-nieces; one great nephew and three great-great nephews and two great-great nieces.
She carried a tradition of scholastic achievements, she was a graduate of Terre Haute State Teachers College and received her B.S. at Terre Haute, M.S. at Butler University and her ED.D at Indiana University. She taught elementary through graduate school levels and was on the faculties at several universities. She taught in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arizona. Her textbooks on hand writing techniques were published by Bobbs-Merrill Company and were used nationally. She was a member of Daughters of American Revolution and Daughters of American Colonist.
