James Harvey Pilcher was born Aug. 27, 1846 in Ohio and came with his parents as a small boy to Boone County. He arrived in Ida County in 1876. The family came with two teams and one white cow, and freighted their goods from Denison, Iowa. It took 5 days to travel from Boone County to Ida County, and they came with lumber sawed at Boone to fit into a house on their arrival.
He married Jennie Brown in 1870 in Boone County. He & his wife had 14 children.
In 1901, he was farming 720 acres of land in Hayes Twp., Ida County, IA.
He served as Ida County Supervisor from 1911-1913 at the time when county roads and cement bridge systems were being developed.
