The funeral for Joe Wiley Croley, 86, of Athens will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sardis Springs Baptist Church with burial in Roselawn Cemetery and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Croley died Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at the Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born July 12, 1923, in Giles County, Tennessee, to F. Marvin Croley and M. Hattie Boyd Croley.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was also a member of the Sardis Springs Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a farmer and retired from Monsanto in Decatur.

Mr. Croley was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Ruth Woodfin Croley.

Survivors include his wife, Sloma Townsend Dollins; sons, Larry J. Croley and wife Gloria, and Barry Wiley Croley, all of Athens; sisters, Mira Ramsey of Donelson, TN, Bettie Moyers, Edith Gooch, Marvilene Hargrove, Rena Turner, and Sandra Wales, all of Athens, Frances Brooks of Battletown, KY, and Barbara Davis of Coco Beach, FL; brothers, Rowe Croley and Kenneth Croley, both of Athens, Aubrey Croley of Blakely, GA, and Andy Croley of Ft. Washington, MD. Surviving grandchildren are Larry Shane Croley, April Dawn Croley, Monya Starr Kirkland, and Sean Cameron Croley; step-grandchild, Destiny Rose Valdez; and great-grandchild, Haleigh Grace Croley.
