Floye Adella Oviatt Bennion passed away Dec. 28, 2009, in Vernal. She was born June 20, 1922 to Bert and Eliza Jensen Oviatt in Elmo, Utah, the second of five daughters. She lived in many small towns in Utah, including Cleveland, Sunnyside, Hiawatha, East Carbon, and Wellington. She graduated from North Emery High School in Huntington, Utah and studied English, biology, and art at the University of Utah.

Floye served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and after an honorable discharge met and married Allen Bennion on May 6, 1948. They lived in Maeser and raised three children; Lane (Mike) Clabaugh, David (Nancie) Bennion, and Maren (Bill) Gresham.

Allen passed away July 1, 1996. Floye was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings, including as a visiting teacher until weeks before her passing. She was an excellent seamstress and knitted and crocheted many items which have become family heirlooms. Her baked treats were favorite around her circle of family and friends.

Floye and Allen traveled by horseback, Jeep, snowmobile and motor home, but she enjoyed best her time in our local mountains. She liked nothing better than sitting around a campfire with family. She craved the company of her children and their children. She was a lovely woman with a sweet voice who could and did provide solace to many.

She is preceded in death by sister, Edith (Jack ) Stagg, Vernal; Deone (Bob) Bishop, Price; LaRue (Bill) White; parents and husband.

She is survived by her sister Wilma (Bob) Baker; three children, all of Vernal; S. Allen Bennion, a stepson, of Scottsdale, Ariz; and numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Dec. 31 at the Vernal Stake Center at 12 noon. Viewing one hour prior to services and on the evening before from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stake Center.
