Louis P. Rosenthal, 80, of Rout 2, Kiel, a shoe repairman in the Town of Schleswig, died suddenly late Tuesday afternoon. He was stricken with a fatal heart attack at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Herzog with whom he had made his home for the past 16 years. Mrs. Herzog is a niece. A native of Sheboygan County, Mr. Rosenthal was born Aug. 15, 1876, in the Town of Rhine, a son of the late John and Julia Franke Rosenthal. He attended school at Ada, was confirmed at St. Peters Evangelical and Reformed Church in Rhine, and operated a shoe repair shop at Millhome until 1920. Later, Mr. Rosenthal moved to the farm of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Umsonst in the Town of Schleswig where he continued in the shoe repair business. He remained there after the farm was taken over by the Umsonst's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Herzog.
A bachelor, Mr. Rosenthal was the last surviving member of his family. One sister, a brother, five half-sisters and four half-brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, with the Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor of St. Peters Evangelical and Reformed Church officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery.
